Those who fear Satan are admitting to themselves that Satan is more powerful than they . . . if more powerful then he has won the battle. My guess is that St. Teresa knew that Satan could do no harm to her soul, but she like most of us had seen the undeniable destruction that comes at the hands of those who’ve turned their hearts to evil.

In 1988, as a part of a class I was taking, we were administered one of those personality tests that was supposed to measure how we processed information and understood the world. What the test revealed was that several of us were high on the intuitive scale. What the instructor told the “intuitives” was that we valued intuition more than logic. This was disappointing news to us.

Maturity is a fragile journey. So fragile, as a matter of fact, that I am unsure that we want to go there. From birth our needs are provided for by others who out of love or duty respond to our needs and our whims. But the day comes when we are cast upon the world with the expectation that we will take care of ourselves. And there are a large number of us who just don’t want to go there.
